Viridi closed a £2.2 million funding round to scale up its technology and enter Asia and the US

Viridi, the UK-based deep-tech company pioneering CO2-to-chemicals innovation, has closed a £2.2 million funding round that brings TOP Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Thaioil, on board as a strategic investor.

Odyssey Ventures led the round, with co-investment from Alphatron Impact Ventures and follow-on commitments from existing angel investors. The funding will accelerate the scale-up of Viridi's technology, strengthen its team and support its expansion into Asia and the US.

Viridi is re-engineering the way essential chemicals are manufactured. Its catalyst technology redesigns decades-old chemical processes, increasing efficiency and reducing manufacturing costs by enabling captured carbon dioxide to become a building block for products that have traditionally relied on fossil or palm-based carbon. The technology is designed as a platform that can be applied across multiple classes of chemicals using existing manufacturing infrastructure. Surfactants, key ingredients across home and personal care, are the first major application, with the potential to extend into other areas of chemical manufacturing, and, ultimately, remove fossil feedstocks from the supply chain entirely.

TOP Ventures, Thaioil’s corporate venture capital arm, brings industrial insight and market knowledge to Viridi as it develops its CO2-based surfactant technology. Thai Oil Public Company Limited (Thaioil) operates across refining, petrochemicals and specialty chemicals, including linear alkylbenzene (LAB) production through LABIX. Drawing on this experience across the energy and chemicals value chain, Thaioil can offer Viridi industrial expertise and market perspectives relevant to scaling its technology across Asia.

Odyssey Ventures, a transatlantic venture capital firm with offices in London and San Francisco, backs UK and European deep-tech companies expanding internationally. An existing Viridi investor and board member, Odyssey brings experience and networks in the US market alongside Thaioil's industrial presence in Asia, giving Viridi strategic support across two major markets as it scales its technology for global commercialisation.

Dr Daniel Stewart, CEO of Viridi, commented: "Having a strategic partner like TOP Ventures look closely at our technology, see its value and choose to back it at this stage is strong validation of what we've built. We'll be working closely with them to deliver our technology to market, starting in Asia. With Odyssey Ventures supporting our growth in the US, we now have partners who can help us take CO2-based surfactants to the world."

Vivat Wongnirund, Vice President-New S-Curve Business Development of Thaioil, said: "We have followed Viridi’s development since 2024 and have been impressed by its progress, particularly in CO2-based surfactants. The technology has been tested in real manufacturing environments and shows strong potential for integration into existing industrial operations. Viridi’s approach to using captured CO2 as an alternative carbon input is highly innovative. This investment gives Thaioil exposure to an emerging technology that fits our future growth strategy in disinfectants and surfactants. We see this technology supporting the future development of surfactant production in Asia and beyond."

Ali Mitchell, Managing Partner, Odyssey Ventures, added: "Our commitment is to grow UK and European deep-tech companies that are solving some of the world's most fundamental problems. Viridi is exactly that kind of company. Combined with a strategic investment from TOP Ventures, our support gives Viridi reach across both the US and Asia as it moves towards commercial deployment."

The investment builds on the launch of Vireya™, Viridi's first CO2-based anionic surfactant, in 2025 and the company's Joint Development Agreement with Zschimmer & Schwarz, announced earlier this year, to accelerate the scale-up and market adoption of Viridi's technology for sustainable surfactants. Most recently, Viridi won the Renewable Material of the Year 2026 Innovation Award at the Renewable Materials Conference in Germany.
